Royal Bhutan Airlines (Drukair), the national carrier, operates international flights from destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, Kathmandu, Dhaka, New Delhi, Kolkata, Gaya, Bagdogra and Guwahati. With schedules varying by season and route, travellers can connect to Bhutan from several major hubs in the region.
Bhutan Airlines (Tashi Air), Bhutan’s first private airline, also connects Paro with key regional destinations. Its network includes Bangkok via Kolkata, as well as Kathmandu and Delhi, with additional routes and frequencies varying according to the season. Bhutan can also be entered by road through four official border gateways from India: Phuentsholing and Samtse in the west, Gelephu in central Bhutan, and Samdrup Jongkhar in the east. Phuentsholing is the country’s main southern gateway and an important commercial centre, while Samdrup Jongkhar is particularly convenient for travellers exploring eastern Bhutan, including Trashigang, Mongar, Lhuentse and Trashiyangtse.
